Southwest Women’s Law Center Seeks Volunteers to Join the Board of Directors

The Southwest Women’s Law Center (SWLC) is seeking diverse volunteers to join our board. We encourage applications from those who share the SWLC values and will serve the mission of the organization:

The mission of the Southwest Women’s Law Center (SWLC) is to create opportunities for women to realize their full economic and personal potential.

Since our inception in 2005, we have worked to eliminate gender bias, discrimination, and harassment; to lift women and their families out of poverty; and to ensure all women have full control over their reproductive lives through access to comprehensive reproductive health services and information, including safe, legal abortion services. We seek to advance the well-being, rights and power of women through legal research, policy analysis, advocacy, community and stakeholder education, and coalition work at the local, state and national levels.

More information on the work of the organization can be found at https://swwomenslaw.org/about/

Time Commitment:

  • The board meets every second Thursday at noon (for about 1.5 hours) to discuss and support the ongoing projects and work of the organization. There may be one or two additional convenings (either virtual or in-person) once a year.
  • The members of the board are expected to review all relevant documents before the meeting.
  • Each member is encouraged to serve on a subcommittee based on their expertise and interest.

Desired Skills and Expertise:

Accounting/Finance, Legal/Legislative, Fundraising/Marketing/Networking, Health/Medical, Economic Development, Community Development, Education, Social Work, Social Activism, Non-Profit Work, Human Resources

Initial board orientation and a great opportunity to be a part of an organization that fights for justice and equality for all women.

We invite anyone who is enthusiastic and passionate about fighting for women and families seeking reproductive rights, access to healthcare and safety, economic equity and security, and educational opportunities to apply. The application can be found be downloaded here.
