Scroll

The Southwest Women’s Law Center is seeking dedicated leaders to join our Board and help drive our mission forward.

As a board member, you’ll play a vital role in advocating for gender equity, supporting the rights of women and families, and guiding our strategic vision to create lasting change across the Southwest.

In this post, you’ll find the full board member role description, including responsibilities, qualifications, and how you can make a meaningful impact. If you’re passionate about justice and community empowerment, this is your opportunity to lead with purpose.

The mission of the Southwest Women’s Law Center (“SWLC”) is to create opportunities for women in New Mexico, so they realize their full economic and personal potential.  Since our inception in 2005, we have worked to eliminate gender bias, discrimination, and harassment; to lift women and their families out of poverty; and to ensure all women have full control over their reproductive lives through access to comprehensive reproductive health services and information. We seek to advance the well-being, rights, and power of women in New Mexico through legal research, policy analysis, advocacy, community and stakeholder education, and coalition work at the local, state, and national levels.

The SWLC is hoping to recruit new board of directors who are in alignment with our values. Here are some of the duties:

  • Maintain fiduciary oversight to assure that the organization is fiscally sound and that funds are used lawfully and consistent with grant requirements.
  • Review the annual audit and 990.
  • Provide general support to the Executive Committee, the Board and the staff of the SWLC.
  • Attend general Board meetings, typically held six times per year with the possibility of additional meetings if called by the Board Chair.
  • Participates in the fundraising activities of the SWLC.
  • Attend and participate in strategic planning for the organization at least every other year or as planned by the Executive Director.
  • Attend and participate in justice, equity, diversity and inclusion trainings that are being offered through the SWLC to board of directors and/or staff.
  • Actively contributes to the work of the Board by participating in one or more subcommittees, such as recruitment, finance, fundraising, or others as needed.
  • Consider running for any of the leadership positions in the future.

Please email a resume, complete application, and a brief cover letter to Erika Harding, Board Recruitment Chair at [email protected], and Mary Clark, Board President at [email protected]. There is an application that we also ask you to complete. Either Erika or Mary will help coordinate a sit down with other Directors. You may copy Terrelene Massey, Esq., Executive Director, at [email protected].

Thank you for your interest!
