Part-Time Job Opportunity: Subcontracted Attorney for Civil Legal Services in Pueblo Communities

The Southwest Women’s Law Center seeks a part-time/temporary attorney or a subcontracted attorney to provide legal representation and/or advice to Native people experiencing domestic violence in Pueblo Courts. This short-term contract runs from August to mid-November.

Compensation: TBD; based on experience.
Starting at $40/hour for a part-time/temporary attorney. Prefer 3–4 years’ experience but will consider 1+ year with strong courtroom experience.
We are open to a subcontracted attorney, we can discuss this.

Scope of Work:

  • The work currently averages 10-15 hours per week
  • Provide legal representation and/or advice in protection order, child custody, and child support cases in Pueblo Tribal Courts
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case records in alignment with grant requirements

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in New Mexico
  • You do not need to already be admitted in each Tribal Court where we have cases, as we can assist with the application process for the relevant courts.
  • Experience working with Native communities and/or in Tribal Courts strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with domestic violence legal issues and trauma-informed legal practice
